Tools for Heroes: Finnegan Playground

The Philadelphia Parks Alliance and Keep Philadelphia Beautiful teamed up with Lowe’s to provide 10 Rec Centers with mini grants totaling $8,000 for tools.

Finnegan Playground will use their grant for:

The Tools for Heroes donation would be used for maintenance of our J Finnegan Soccer Mini-Pitch. Our mini-pitch/event space project is community driven (planning, building, fundraising, programming and maintenance) and grant funded (Pincus Family and Love Futbol). The grant funding covered building materials and professional project guidance. Volunteers from the community formed committees to plan and execute this project. The space is used by the community for soccer, volleyball, exercise, flea market and other programming. On October 19th, 2019 members of Parks & Recreation, Pincus Family Organization, Street Soccer USA, and love futbol along with 200+ community members came together to clear leaves and debris, paint (murals, benches, dasher board, walk/run path), build soccer goals, and lay the mini-pitch tile surface. The next phase of this project is fundraising, programming and maintenance of this community space. The mini-pitch is surrounded by trees and fields. To properly maintain this community space we are in need of leaf blowers, rolling trash cans, professional plastic upright dust pans, weed whackers, and a snow blower.
