Boat to Bartram's Garden

Cruise to Bartram’s Garden and learn how 3 generations of the Bartram family helped Philadelphia become a mecca of natural science, education, and government. Their explorations of the wild American frontier not only altered the horticultural landscape of a young America itself, but also Great Britain, Europe, and the rest of the world.

Take a ¼ mile walk from the Bartram’s dock to explore the historic garden and community farm. Boat to Bartram’s Garden tickets include a 45-minute guided tour featuring a behind the scenes look at a 200 year-old ice pit, the oldest barn in Philadelphia, and what may be the oldest greenhouse in North America.

Tours depart from the Walnut Street Dock, located under the Walnut Street Bridge on the east bank (Center City side) of the Schuylkill River. Click here or use the red "Plan Your Visit" button above for map and directions.

The Patriot, a reproduction of a classic 1920s mini commuter yacht, is a U.S. Coast Guard-approved vessel that is perfect for tours, parties and corporate outings. Featuring wrap around seating, a fully equipped bar, restroom, and a sheltered yet open stern, the Patriot allows guests to take in all of the interesting sights along the tidal Schuylkill in comfort and style.

Tours are not recommended for children under age 4. Carry-on food or beverages are not permitted. Tours are subject to cancellation without notice in case of inclement weather or conditions that are deemed unsuitable for navigation by the U.S. Coast Guard.
