"Each month, City Parks Alliance names one “Frontline Park” as a standout example of urban park excellence, innovation and stewardship from across the country. The program identifies city parks that find innovative ways to meet the unique challenges faced as a result of shrinking municipal budgets, land use pressures and urban blight.
Mestizo-Curtis Park in Denver, CO, and the Philly Pumptrack (award description on City Parks Alliance Page in Philadelphia, PA, were recently designated Frontline Parks thanks to innovative practices in community engagement and public-private partnerships. Mestizo-Curtis Park, which is one of the oldest parks in the West, is currently in the second phase of a community-led restoration effort. The Philly Pumptrack has transformed a neglected corner of historic Fairmount Park from an illegal dumping ground to a safe, active space for nearby residents."
